Other branches in philosophy

Charles:

  • Philosophy of Education. A minor branch, mainly concerned with what is correct way to educate a person.
  • Philosophy of History. This is better understood when you read Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Karl Marx. Within history, there is underlying principle. This could be extend on the changes in the course of history by influence of our consciousness. For my own definition, this could be a philosophy of changes in the human consciousness. Just tell me if you want me to explain it further.

Patrycja: Tell me something about “consciousness”. I always like this word.

Charles: Consciousness is very broad to explain to you but what I meant there is that the “state of mind” of the individual. The framework of one’s thinking is restricted within the parameters of this “consciousness” outside of it is not part of the human existence. Do you get me?

  • Philosophy of language. This is a branch of philosophy that deals with how language affect our thought.

Patrycja: How does it affect?

Charles: Language affects the culture, human existence, politics, religion and science. For example, in a particular culture language affects how the people, in that particular culture, thinks and how they live their life. Do you get it?

  • Philosophy of Law or may be called Jurisprudence. Study of law attempting to discern what the best laws might be, how laws came into being in the first place, attempting to delimit human laws from natural laws, whether we should always obey the law, and so on.
  • Philosophy of Mathematics. It is concerned with the nature of the axioms and symbols (numbers, triangle, operands) of mathematics that we use to understand the world, do perfect mathematical forms exist in the real world, and so on.
  • Philosophy of Religion. It is different from Theology since Theology is concerned with the study of God in the light of scriptures. However, philosophy of religion studies God, religious practices and how religion shape our life. It is similar to Theology’s concern but philosophy of religion does not use scripture or sacred books instead it uses reason.

Patrycja: What do you think about buddism? It is not a religion true?

Charles: We will get throught that! I do not want to spoil the fun haha

  • Philosophy of Science. It is study of science concerned whether scientific knowledge can be certain how we obtain it, can science really explain everything, does causation really exist, can every event in the universe be described in terms of physics and so on. This has a wider perspective. Science has its own philosophy.
